family life programs

The Family Life Program addresses the needs of parents, families, youth and the professionals who serve them through partnerships with agencies addressing youth and parent concerns. Our goal is to increase parent-child communication and parent-child connectedness (bonding), which have been established as protective factors for the prevention of teen pregnancy, substance abuse, violence, and school dropout.

We offer a variety of FREE parenting classes which are available in English and Spanish, including:

My Baby and Me

This is a twelve-week series for parents up to age 24, based on the Making Parenting a Pleasure (MPP) curriculum. This is a universal group-based parenting education and support program for parents with children 0-3 years of age. This is currently offered at Cambridge Community Center through the East Valley Family Services’ Family To Family Connection.

Positive Choices, Positive Futures (PCPF)

This is an evidence-based workshop that focuses on adolescent development and the changes that occur during puberty. It is taught as week one of the Parenting Wisely series but is also offered as a stand-alone workshop in various locations, including the home.

Our Parenting Wisely (PW)

These classes allow parents to view and discuss realistic video scenarios of typical family problems. PW teaches effective family management skills, proven to lessen high-risk behavior, including early sexual involvement and substance abuse. These risky behaviors in turn can contribute to teen pregnancy and other problems for both the adolescent and their family. PW has been rated a “Model Program" for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and an “Exemplary Program" for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). Classes are available in various locations including the home. PCPF is taught in the first week and a wrap-up session in the sixth week of the PW series.
