Welcome to "They Run Better Unleaded: Childhood Lead Prevention in Southern Nevada," instructed by William P. Berliner, MD, FACS, and Gail Gholson, RN, BSN.  This course is presented in Microsoft Internet Explorer with Windows Streaming technology.

CME Credit:
Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada is accredited by the Nevada State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA APR Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should only claim credit that is commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

"They Run Better Unleaded: Childhood Lead Poisoning in Southern Nevada" was originated in October 2007, and will be reviewed on a yearly basis for correctness and currency of content.  The current authorization period for this program expires in October 2010.

CE Credit:
Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada is a designated provider of Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.  This program is a designated event for the CHES to receive up to 1 Category I CECH in health education.  Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada approves this program for 1.2 contact hours of nursing continuing education credit.

At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Define lead poisoning;
  • Describe the primary effects of elevated blood levels;
  • Discuss risk factors for childhood lead poisoning;
  • Identify Medicaid blood level screening requirements;
  • Describe lead exposure preventive measures that parents can initiate; and
  • Identify provider responsibilities with regard to childhood lead poisoning.
Item number one below contains the video for this course.  After viewing the video, please proceed to item number two, the post-test.  Item number three below is a program evaluation.  The data collected from the evaluation form will help us to create and refine our courses and educational materials to meet your needs.  Also, this data will be used to document activities for grant writing and reporting purposes.  Your participation is extremely important to reporting and future funding.  Upon successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form, your certificate will be mailed to you.
