A Program of AHEC of Southern Nevada

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Preserving Families Through Prevention

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign uses a simple child's toy to grab our attention and remind us how important it is to make children a priority in our community.

During the month of April, over 25,000 pinwheels will be planted in front of courthouses, schools and public and private agencies in communities throughout the state of Nevada to generate awareness about what each and every one of us can do to prevent child abuse and neglect.

At Prevent Child Abuse Nevada, we believe in prevention-in doing what we can to ensure that children live in safe, stable and nurturing environments. We believe healthy child development is the foundation for community and economic development-the building blocks of a flourishing society and stable nation. Prevention means supporting community-based programs like Family Resource Centers, Family to Family Connection programs and parent education that focus on child development and reduce the likelihood of child maltreatment. We believe in Preserving Families Through Prevention.

Please join us on Tuesday April 6th at the Historic 5th Street School from 10am-11am for our Pinwheels Kick-off ceremony.

The Family Fair is part of the "Pinwheels for Prevention" campaign to promote April Child Abuse Prevention Month in Clark County. This year the Family Fair will be at Clark County Government Center located at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV. 89155 on April 10, 2010 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We are anticipating hundreds of children and family members who will enjoy a FREE fun-filled educational day, with entertainment, exhibits, food, games and egg hunt.

In 2002 AHEC of Southern Nevada received funding by the Children's Trust Fund to establish Prevent Child Abuse Nevada (PCA) is a chapter of the national organization Prevent Child Abuse America. PCA Nevada provides prevention services statewide to professionals, children, parents, and the community at large. The state chapter also provides advocacy, support, and outreach to agencies and organizations that provide direct services to children and families.

Our goal: to coordinate child abuse prevention efforts throughout the state. Our mission: to prevent child abuse and neglect in all its forms.

Nevada has an array of resources to address child maltreatment, but these vital services are scattered. The PCA Nevada chapter coordinates statewide child abuse prevention efforts and activities and provides legislative advocacy for child abuse prevention. As part of its ongoing efforts to represent all of Nevada, PCA partners with children's service providers, community organizations, and individuals throughout the state to address the needs of both rural and urban communities. PCA Nevada coordinates a statewide Child Abuse Prevention Month Campaign, "Pinwheels for Prevention" every April.
