HIV/AIDS Programs
Serving Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Pharmacists, and other healthcare providers
The HIV/AIDS program is currently supported through an award from the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center. It was through this support that the Las Vegas AIDS Education & Training Center (AETC) was established.
The goal of the Las Vegas AETC is to provide healthcare professionals with trainings that cover the most current standard of HIV/AIDS care and treatment options. A particular focus is training primary care providers who provide direct clinical care to persons living with HIV/AIDS.

HIV/AIDS Continuing Education Programs (AETC)
Workshops Trainings that cover the most current and important clinical standards involving HIV/AIDS care. These trainings can be didactic, train the trainer workshops, case presentations, or skill building workshops. All trainings provide the opportunity for health care professionals to earn continuing education hours for their participation.
In-service Training These trainings are provided for health care professionals in their own clinic and are tailor made to meet the needs and address the specific issues that professionals are facing in their treatment of persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Clinical Training Trainings include activities where the trainee is actively involved in clinical care experiences involving patients under the observation of an HIV/AIDS specialist. These may include mini-residencies, preceptorships, and onsite clinical guidance and assistance.
Technical Assistance AETC provides resources, guidance, and assistance to health care professionals and organizations that serve people living with HIV/AIDS.
Workshop Topics Include, but are not limited to: HIV 101, Medications & Adherence, Nutrition, Oral Health, Case Management, Mental Health Issues, Face of HIV/AIDS, Ethics, Co-mormidity, Substance Abuse & HIV, and Hepatitis & HIV.
Nevada Care Program
AHEC Partnership with University of Nevada School of Medicine Nevada Care Program, A Healthy Tomorrows Partnership Grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Health Resource Services Administration.
The Nevada Care Program is a collaborative venture partnering the Area Health Education Center of Southern Nevada, and its AIDS Education and Training Center, with the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, and established HIV community agencies to respond to a need for coordinated services for HIV-positive pregnant women and their children in Clark County, many of whom may be uninsured and/or lack access to basic healthcare. The Nevada Care Program provides a fully inclusive program of prevention and care services for HIV-positive pregnant women, infants, and children. Project partners are seeking to deliver the first, culturally competent, family-centered, comprehensive prevention and intervention program for HIV-positive pregnant women, children, and adolescents in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada.

Community Programs
Sexuality Lessons Including Cool Knowledge (SLICK) This program takes on a skill-building approach to reach adolescents ages 10 to 17. The program is designed to educate and discuss sexuality issues that encompass abstinence, teen pregnancy, STDs, and HIV/AIDS. Through interactive lessons, participants learn risk reduction skills, contraception methods, and are able to recognize healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. Overall, young people learn that the choices they make today will affect their tomorrows. The SLICK program is funded through a generous grant from Golden Rainbow, a local non-profit organization that provides housing and financial assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Southern Nevada area.
Healthy Choices for Life
This is an education program for people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. A four part series includes topics on: HIV 101, Medication and Adherence, Nutrition and Case Management.
