Nursing Connections
What Is It?
Nursing Connections is a one-week hands-on summer enrichment program designed to educate and excite participants about nursing career opportunities. Participants will learn that with a foundation in nursing, career opportunities are abundant. These career opportunities include bedside nursing, emergency/trauma nursing, administration, education, armed forces, public health and many others.
Who Can Apply?
Students entering grades 11 and 12 during the 2008-2009 school year, and adults with a high school diploma may apply. This program is designed for individuals with an interest in nursing professions. Participants must have a 2.5 overall grade point average.
Where Is the Program?
Nursing Connections will be held in Las Vegas at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rod Lee Bigelow Health Sciences building. The program will be held in the first week of August 2008. Program hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through Friday. Transportation will not be provided to and from the program; however, CAT bus tokens will be available upon request.
Does the Program Cost Any Money?
No, program participation is free of charge for all selected applicants.
What Will I Do During the Program?
Activities include:
- Participating in basic nursing skill labs
- Problem-based learning
- Completing case studies
- Clinical site visits

Applicants must submit:
- An application
- A copy of your most recent academic transcript or high school diploma
